How to Set Up Remote Desktop on a Mac at CS Department of UW-Madison

The following steps are based on this official documentation post .

  1. Download VPN.
  2. Download Microsoft Remote Desktop
  3. Open Microsoft Remote Desktop
  4. PC Name: instrd.cs.wisc.edu. Then “Save”
  5. “The identity of the remote PC can’t be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?” Click Connect
  6. Username: CS.WISC.EDU\username, Password: your password. Please note that the username and password are those of your CS account, not your NetID.
  7. Same as above for the remote log in.
  8. To exit, put the pointer to the top of your screen. You’ll know howo to do it.
